The stallion "Merano"
was the son of the stallion "Merlin," who was judged the best
Holsteiner stallion in Germany in 1970. "Merano's" granddam
"Rhea" produced with the stallion "Anblick" the
mare "Venezia" who won the Individual Bronze Medal (with Joseph
Neckerman on board) and Team Silver in the 1972 Olympics. A "Merano"
daughter, "Valleta IV" produced "Calvero V" who
won the Individual Silver Medal in show jumping at the 1996 Atlanta
Olympics. He was voted "Best Horse" at the World Equestrian
Games in 1998, and was named number one in the world three times by
the World Breeding Federation for Sport Horses. A "Merano"
stallion son, "Magical," has offspring that are proving to
be outstanding competitors in various hunter divisions. One of "Magical's"
sons, "Touch of Magic," was champion of the 3 - and 4- year
old Hunter divisions held recently at Upperville, VA. Another "Magical"
son, "Sam Brown," was the Reserve Champion in the same show
and divisions.
There are many offspring
of "Merano" who are outstanding competitors in all disciplines
- dressage, jumping and eventing.
